Olaniran Omodara

Dr. Olaniran Omodara is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Iwosan Lagoon Hospitals. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and commenced his cardiothoracic surgery training at Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Ido-Araba, Lagos.

Driven by a strong commitment to excellence and advanced clinical practice, he pursued further training at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Ghana, in 2014, and at the Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, in 2015. These experiences provided valuable international exposure and significantly shaped his career as a cardiac surgeon.

He subsequently completed a one-year clinical attachment in both paediatric and adult cardiac surgery at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, India, where he developed considerable proficiency in cardiac surgical procedures. He was later awarded the Fellowship of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FMCS – Cardiothoracic Surgery).

He proceeded to the United Kingdom, where he further refined his surgical expertise through rotations across multiple cardiac surgery units. At the completion of his advanced training, he was awarded a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd – Cardiothoracic Surgery).

Mr. Omodara has been involved in over 1,000 cardiothoracic procedures and has independently performed hundreds of advanced cardiac surgeries. His areas of expertise include multi-arterial coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), complex aortic procedures, aortic valve replacements (AVR), with a special interest in sutureless valves, and mitral valve repair.

He has worked at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, Nottingham; Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Trust, Norwich; and currently practices at Northern General Hospital, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

He is married with children and is a lifelong supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
